Pink Shirt Day. You can help bring awareness to bully prevention by ordering a
CHOOSE KIND t-shirt for $5.00 through myschoolfees. This will cover the cost of
your shirt and raise money to go towards a non-profit organization called myFace. This
organization is dedicated to transforming the lives of patients with facial disfigurement.
Every year, myFace helps hundreds of children born with craniofacial disorders and
Treachers Collins syndrome.  Based off the theme of the book Wonder, myFace has
created the Wonder Project by providing curriculums for schools to help adolescents

  • Next week, we will read a short story, "All Summer in a Day." During the week, we will focus on determining the theme of the story and compare it to the story we read last week, as well as locating and understanding the meaning of the Figurative Language as it is written in the story.
  • We will have a vocabulary and comprehension test about the story on Monday, Jan. 22.
  • We will pick back up with IXL (which will be due on Friday, Jan. 19), and it will focus on Theme and Figurative Language.
Math:
We will continue to work on subtracting fractions and mixed numbers.  We will review addition and subtraction of fractions with unlike denominators including adding mixed numbers.  Our main focus will be on subtracting mixed numbers with unlike denominators.  We will be working with line plots that involve fractions and using data from these line plots.  We will have a Cumulative Review for homework.  Students will also have an IXL Contract they will work on at school and will be due Friday.  The IXL is only for homework if the students have not finished at school throughout the week.  We had originally planned to have a Unit 3 Test on Friday, January 19th.  Due to Global Scholar/Scantron testing, this has been postponed to Thursday, January 25th.  A study guide for this test will be sent home next Friday.

Science:
We will wrap up our unit on ecosystems by discussing different materials and tools to help us design a process to clean an oil spill so that it has the least impact on an ecosystem.  Students will be using the Engineering Design process to design, implement, evaluate, and improve a  process for cleaning their oil spill.  Our next unit will be on mixtures and solutions.

Social Studies:
We will continue our unit on the American Revolution. Next week, we will learn more about the Patriots and Loyalists and look at Minorities that had a part in the Revolutionary War. Please continue to keep your Table of Contents neat and in order.
